It's very good that we have Shire offices and the Library in Augusta. Good they have the same opening hours. Gym and hydrotherapy pool are excellent assets for the community. Good waste management collection service. Roads are well swept. The boardwalk from Town Jetty to Colourpatch. Bike path to Dead Finish.
0 comment0haywardtomover 3 years agoI love the balance & diversity of the natural environment. The buzz of towns & venues, which aren't too city like. Keep the 'ruralness'.
Keep the planning and development well screened by nature strips, only on cleared farm land. Not too close to the sensitive coastal heath. Over clearing and lack of natural environment will lead to a swan valley feel.
0 comment4TJover 3 years agoIntensive agriculture
Rezone more of the rural farmland within 10km of the to ecourage 1 & 2ha land parcels that people want to create small mixed crop sustainable farming practice. Not only would this be of economical beinfit, but it would lead to the revegetation of some of the broad acre clearing that was done in years past.

karenover 3 years agoSupport the Augusta Margaret River Community Alliance Inc. to help support community and volunteer groups and increase resilience
COVID has taught us the value of our community connections in resilience and mental health. The AMR Community Alliance was formed in response to acknowledged need for support for community groups, large and small, and play their role more effectively and, where needed, have a joint voice. The Alliance has the potential to provide many benefits including auspicing; sharing equipment, software and resources; networking. It can provide a community link for the Shire. The Alliance needs support to become established and most effective. We know the community will continue to face challenges - COVID, bushfires, climate change, economic uncertainty ---. Supporting the Alliance is one way the shire can promote community resilience.
0 comment1karenover 3 years agoSupport the Witchcliffe community to make Witchy a model for how we can live lightly, a demonstration of planning, building & technology.
Witchy has the potential to showcase what can be achieved when a community aligns in desiring low-impact sustainable development and lifestyles, conservation and respect for heritage. The proposals in the draft Planning Strategy, the input from the community consultation meeting, and the model provided by the developing Ecovillage are a wonderful start.
0 comment0Rivercottage2over 3 years agoWouldn't it be nice if...
Support for a younger demographic - affordable rental housing. Continued growth of the population - more new housing on good-sized blocks. A larger population in Augusta will result in the viability of more commercial services. We would like to see a bus service from Augusta to Margaret River, so that people are not dependent on a car. A boardwalk from Victoria Parade to the Augusta Town Jetty would do wonders for enabling access to the town - this would require the construction of a boardwalk into the river as some land is privately owned (as is the case with the southern boardwalk). Empty shops in Augusta town centre are an eyesore and a waste of existing infrastructure - reduce the rates? Shire-managed independent living units for seniors. Encourage more medical specialists to practise in Margaret River and Augusta by proving suitable premises. It's a major problem for a lot of people to attend appointments in Busselton and Bunbury. Extend the existing bike path to the lighthouse. The road is dangerous to cycle on. The Gnarabup Resort will be a major attraction, for locals and visitors alike. Cafes that are open after 3pm in the tourist season - what must our visitors think? Cafes with gardens - as in e.g. Nannup.

Any land that isn't already cleared should be preserved
4 comments6samanthaover 3 years agoStop using Weed Killing poisons
In the future We WILL see the natural environment flourish and when the shire stop using the poisons for lazy weed control, nature will not only look better but there will be more of a balanced ecological system. You will stop looking at the propaganda lobbying and start doing serious research! We will remove the poisons from AMR shire and beyond ! ! Be brave, say no to puppet master BAYER and MONEYSANTO !!

- Can you see yourself living in Augusta Margaret River in 10 years? Why/why not?
marcel reubenover 3 years agowhat makes this area special ?
Make the shire a world leading example on preserving "the wilderness" to quote David Attenborough. Every development should be made to improve the wilderness to assist native flora and fauna species to thrive.
0 comment3haywardtomover 3 years agoEncourage Trees in Subdivisions (possibly slightly bigger blocks)
Encourage tree plantings and vegetation in subdivisions to increase the cooling affect in streets (with slightly bigger blocks). Reduce energy use and water consumption by households. This also allows a more natural feel to areas and a less city like feel. Enforce quality buildings, with a suitable design feel.
1 comment2Jbandover 3 years agoProvide or at least help support a Senior Citizens Centre for use by retired people and their Clubs.
We currently use the Margaret River District Club for bridge, games day and socialisation, but this venue is struggling and in danger of closing. There are no similar venues available, and this venue is ideal to cater for the needs of seniors in our community. i.e. games room hire, meals available, bar service in the evenings and room to store our equipment.
0 comment0Bathunt66over 3 years agoStop catering to developers
Every new development in this town reneges on their original “suck you in” plans. This includes Brookfield (tv antenna debacle), Rapids Landing (not continuing roads to John Archibald Drive) & Over 55’s village. Let’s focus on the population we have & approve new businesses that aren’t another cafe. Let’s be diverse & original in our choices & cater to the people who reside here all year round. Make things like groceries, rates, retail affordable not tourist driven. Then we would all frequent & spend more of our hard earned $$$ in this place we live.
