about 3 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.- What's important to you about the Augusta Margaret River area?
- What do you value in your community – for our economy, environment, place and culture?
- What can the Shire do to uphold these values?
- In what way does the Shire touch your life and what do you value about that?
- What is it about Augusta Margaret River that makes you want to call it home?
- What do you like about our public facilities, including open spaces, parks, libraries, swimming pools and market places?
MaddyKatover 3 years agoRenewal Augusta
Strong focus on Margaret River as key residential and tourism hub. Needs to be a greater economic development focus on Augusta. It appears to get a little lost in the mix. A clear plan across all facets of economic development. Difficult to locate online data on investment in Augusta since marina.
0 comment0William Cawleyabout 3 years agoOpen up many more beaches between Dunsborough and Augusta with roads and car parks
0 comment0grangladover 3 years agoStop all this development of prime agricultural land into housing. People live here because of the natural rural beauty, not suburbs
More protection of existing rural areas
0 comment2Skitreesover 3 years agoRegister and restrict domestic cats movement in our region to protect our precious wildlife.
When are we going to get serious about protecting our local native wildlife from roaming domestic cats. Cats are killing an estimated 230m native Australian birds, reptiles and mammals every year, according to new research that quantifies the pet's national toll on native animals for the first time. Our council needs to take on the responsibility for our threatened wildlife and develop policies that will protect them and ensure they have a future. The council needs to put some serious thought into this policy to ensure that all cats are registered and that their movement is restricted to their home. Why wait until it's too late?
0 comment2Cow Bombieabout 3 years agoPreserve our coastline as habitat for wildlife
Our Capes coastline is getting over-run with people, dogs and 4WD's. Limit development and keep most of our coast wild. Work more cohesively with DBCA to increase fox and cat baiting, block illegal tracks and improve facilities in key areas.

about 3 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.- What would you like to see in 20 years in Augusta Margaret River?
- What in Augusta Margaret River would you like to leave or preserve for the next generation?
- What do you think the Shire can do to ensure we build a vibrant flourishing locally owned economy?
- What in Augusta Margaret River would you like to leave or preserve for the next generation?
- What kind of community do you want to live in?
TAPover 3 years agoThe natural environment should be preserved for the next generation while also being able to easily access and enjoy it.
Look after beaches and natural environment and balance this with the ability to enjoy it. i.e. you cant get enjoy the beach if you cant get a carpark (Red Gate), you can't easily enjoy the beach or playgrounds with young kids if there's no shade etc
0 comment0samanthaover 3 years agoStop using Weed Killing poisons
In the future We WILL see the natural environment flourish and when the shire stop using the poisons for lazy weed control, nature will not only look better but there will be more of a balanced ecological system. You will stop looking at the propaganda lobbying and start doing serious research! We will remove the poisons from AMR shire and beyond ! ! Be brave, say no to puppet master BAYER and MONEYSANTO !!

Any land that isn't already cleared should be preserved

Support for a younger demographic - affordable rental housing. Continued growth of the population - more new housing on good-sized blocks. A larger population in Augusta will result in the viability of more commercial services. We would like to see a bus service from Augusta to Margaret River, so that people are not dependent on a car. A boardwalk from Victoria Parade to the Augusta Town Jetty would do wonders for enabling access to the town - this would require the construction of a boardwalk into the river as some land is privately owned (as is the case with the southern boardwalk). Empty shops in Augusta town centre are an eyesore and a waste of existing infrastructure - reduce the rates? Shire-managed independent living units for seniors. Encourage more medical specialists to practise in Margaret River and Augusta by proving suitable premises. It's a major problem for a lot of people to attend appointments in Busselton and Bunbury. Extend the existing bike path to the lighthouse. The road is dangerous to cycle on. The Gnarabup Resort will be a major attraction, for locals and visitors alike. Cafes that are open after 3pm in the tourist season - what must our visitors think? Cafes with gardens - as in e.g. Nannup.

Keep areas like Riflebutts kid and dog friendly so that the whole family including well behaved furry friends can all hang out together.

- Can you see yourself living in Augusta Margaret River in 10 years? Why/why not?
samanthaover 3 years agoDevelop Empty Farmland Not Native Bush
Most Farmland is already damaged. Rather than sub divide natural bush land, subdivide bare old degraded farmland. At least it can’t get any worse on that land. Could even improve it haha ?
0 comment0TAPover 3 years agoMore shade and shelter
More shaded playgrounds and beach shelters for young families to enjoy the outdoors in summer and at least one outdoor playground with some kind of cover for outdoor play in winter when it's almost always raining.
0 comment0Jbandover 3 years agoProvide or at least help support a Senior Citizens Centre for use by retired people and their Clubs.
We currently use the Margaret River District Club for bridge, games day and socialisation, but this venue is struggling and in danger of closing. There are no similar venues available, and this venue is ideal to cater for the needs of seniors in our community. i.e. games room hire, meals available, bar service in the evenings and room to store our equipment.
0 comment0Still-hopingover 3 years agoFootpaths.
So much of the old development areas still have no footpaths after all these years. Might have worked once when Margaret River was a tiny hamlet, it’s not working now. Let’s genuinely encourage walking and pedestrians by building footpaths!
0 comment1Mover 3 years agoSeparate categories of planning approval for commercial use that might be contentious
Before land is even purchased, developers of service stations, fast food franchises etc. need to know planning conditions will be more stringent than other commercial enterprises. Much more weight given to environment, aesthetics and views of local residents.
